Assam concert tourism is set to receive a major boost as the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) plans to bring global pop icon Shakira to Dibrugarh as part of the state’s event-led tourism strategy.
The initiative aims to transform Assam into a major tourism hub by hosting large-scale entertainment events that attract visitors and enhance the state’s global visibility.
ATDC Plans Shakira Concert in Dibrugarh
BJP state general secretary and ATDC chairman Rituparna Baruah announced that the government is making efforts to bring Shakira to Dibrugarh under Assam concert tourism initiatives.
Speaking to reporters in Dibrugarh, Baruah said Khanikor Stadium has been proposed as the venue for the mega concert. He noted that the state government recently launched a concert tourism policy to strengthen Assam’s tourism sector and position the state as a key destination for large-scale events.
Concert Tourism Strategy to Boost Travel
Baruah highlighted the potential of Assam concert tourism by referring to regional examples. He pointed out that Meghalaya has successfully hosted annual mega concerts that significantly boosted its tourism sector.
Drawing inspiration from that success, Assam recently organised a major concert in Guwahati, which received an overwhelming response from audiences and visitors.
The state government now aims to replicate similar success through high-profile international events.
Dibrugarh’s Role in Tourism Development
According to officials, the proposed Shakira concert in Dibrugarh is part of a broader strategy to promote the Upper Assam city as a major tourist destination.
Baruah stated that the primary objective of Assam concert tourism is to develop Dibrugarh into a key attraction through event-driven tourism initiatives, enhancing visitor inflow and strengthening the local economy.
