About The Festival
The Hornbill Festival is one of Northeast India's biggest cultural festivals, celebrated every year from December 1 to 10 at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, near Kohima. Known as the "Festival of Festivals," it brings together the major tribes of Nagaland to showcase their traditional dances, music, customs, crafts, and local cuisine. Organized by Nagaland Tourism, the festival attracts thousands of visitors from across India and around the world.
Named after the culturally significant hornbill bird, the festival offers an immersive glimpse into Naga heritage and tribal life. Visitors can enjoy colorful cultural performances, indigenous games, folk music, handwoven textiles, bamboo handicrafts, and authentic local food. Traditional ceremonies and tribal attire make the event a paradise for photographers and cultural travelers.
Over the years, the Hornbill Festival has also become a major tourism and entertainment event featuring rock concerts, food festivals, adventure activities, and local markets. Beyond the celebrations, travelers can explore the scenic hills of Nagaland and experience the warm hospitality of the Naga people. For anyone looking to experience the rich culture of Northeast India, the Hornbill Festival remains one of the region's most iconic events.
