One of Guwahati‘s popular public parks has reopened to visitors after an extensive makeover, with Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai inaugurating the newly renovated Silpukhuri Park on July 27.
The park, which remained closed for nearly 18 months to undergo redevelopment, has been upgraded with modern recreational facilities, improved landscaping, and enhanced public amenities. The renovation is expected to provide residents and tourists with a more attractive green space in the heart of the city.
₹98 Lakh Redevelopment Completed by GMDA
Spread across four bighas, Silpukhuri Park has been renovated by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) at a cost of ₹98 lakh.
The redevelopment project focused on improving both the park’s infrastructure and visitor experience. Officials said the upgrades were designed to make the park safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable for people of all age groups.
The reopening marks the completion of one of the city’s key urban beautification projects aimed at enhancing public recreational spaces.
New Attractions and Visitor Amenities
Visitors to the revamped park can now enjoy a variety of new features introduced as part of the renovation.
The upgraded facilities include:

Free Entry for Morning Walkers
The Assam government has announced that entry to Silpukhuri Park will remain free for morning walkers between 5:30 AM and 10:00 AM, encouraging residents to make use of the city’s green spaces for fitness and recreation.
After 10:00 AM, visitors will be required to pay a nominal entry fee.
However, children, senior citizens, and specially abled persons will continue to enjoy free entry, making the park accessible to a wider section of the community.
