The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has officially signed an agreement to bring a new Gateway hotel to the scenic town of Dirang, located in Arunachal Pradesh. This greenfield development, known as Gateway Dirang, is set to be a significant addition to the West Kameng district. By expanding into this region, IHCL continues to broaden its reach across India’s most breathtaking and emerging landscapes.
Strategic Growth in the West Kameng District
This upcoming 70-room property is designed to cater to a variety of travelers, featuring an all-day dining restaurant, a bar, and a speciality restaurant. Beyond dining, the facility will house a swimming pool, fitness centre, spa, banquet hall, and dedicated meeting rooms.
Suma Venkatesh, the executive vice-president of real estate and development at IHCL, noted that the natural landscape and better accessibility in Dirang are driving demand from adventure seekers and leisure travelers alike. Venkatesh highlighted that the location is a key stop for those traveling toward Tawang, making it a vital part of the state’s tourism circuit. This project involves a partnership with Phurpa Tsering and aligns with the company’s strategy to pioneer destinations that are just beginning to see a rise in tourism.
Increasing Footprint Across the North East and India
The addition of Gateway Dirang brings the total number of IHCL properties in the North East to 21, including 12 hotels currently under development. This move follows another recent signing by the company for a Gateway Hotel and Convention Centre in Kanamangala, Devanahalli, situated near the Bengaluru Airport. That Karnataka project is also a greenfield development and will contribute to a total of 20 IHCL hotels in the Bengaluru area, where 11 are presently being developed.
